What is red light?

Red light is the longer-wavelength portion of visible light. In research and consumer devices, an exact wavelength should be stated rather than inferred from the color of a device. A glowing red appearance does not reveal output, dose, or performance.

What is near-infrared light?

Near-infrared light is outside normal human vision. A device may therefore be operating even when a near-infrared emitter does not appear bright. Whether a product includes it—and at what specifications—should come from verified technical documentation.

Why do protocols matter?

Wavelength is only one variable. Irradiance, exposure time, distance, fit, treatment area, and total dose can all differ across devices and studies. This is why a study of one protocol cannot automatically validate another product.

What should shoppers look for?

Look for clearly published specifications, instructions, intended use, safety information, and evidence tied to the relevant device or protocol. Treat vague phrases such as “medical grade” or “clinically inspired” as marketing language unless the seller explains and documents what they mean.
